My name is Geoff Cooke, and I have been a Seattle-based luthier since 2013.
I have also been a finish carpenter and cabinet installer since 2006, which has given me a solid foundation in woodworking. My focus is repair and restoration. No matter the quality of your instrument, it should play and sound as good as possible.

I apprenticed with:

  • Tom Barrett at the Double Bass Workshop in Galway Ireland.
  • University of New Hampshire's summer violin workshop (bow rehair)
  • Hammond Ashley Violins in Issaquah, Washington.
  • Robert Ross Double Bass Shop in Denver, Colorado.

Currently,  my shop is located at 1402 NW 57th St, Seattle, WA 98107, with the entrance through the garage on 57th street.

I have been a professional jazz bass player since 1989 and have an undergraduate degree from CU Denver. I also attended a semester at the New School under an NEA fellowship to study with renowned bassist Buster Williams in New York City in 1994.

My experience as a working bassist gives me a special insight into what it takes to set up a double bass to achieve optimal sound and feel.
I absolutely love working on double basses, and I strive to achieve the highest level of quality and craftsmanship in my work.
